A number of Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to comment on reports from the Sunday Mirror (11/10; page 73) over the weekend claiming that Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men are one of the sides keen on signing Troy Deeney.
The Saints did not bring in a large number of players over the summer. But it does appear that they did some extremely smart business, including bringing Theo Walcott back on loan.

One area they perhaps did not strengthen is up front. Of course, Danny Ings has established himself as one of the most prolific goalscorers in the Premier League, and Walcott could potentially lead the line if required.
And in fairness, Che Adams looks to be improving after a tough start. They also have Michael Obafemi and Shane Long in the ranks.
Nevertheless, you could understand if Hasenhuttl wanted to add more depth. If Southampton lose Ings to injury at any stage, it could become extremely tough.

That is perhaps why they are interested in Deeney, according to the Mirror (11/10; page 73). It is suggested that they are battling the likes of West Brom and Brighton for the Watford man.
And it appears that plenty of fans would happily see Deeney arrive at St Mary’s. He has proved that he can score goals in the top flight. And he does appear to be the kind of player that opposition defenders hate facing.
Admittedly, there are some who are less keen. But there are several who think that he could actually be a very shrewd signing to provide further cover for Ings.
Here is how some of the supporters have reacted to the reports…
