Southampton fans react on Twitter to Chris Wood interest reports

A number of Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to comment on reports from The Sunday Mirror (16/8; page 67) over the weekend suggesting that the Saints want Chris Wood this summer.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men recovered superbly from a poor start to last season. Danny Ings’s form was, obviously, a key reason for their turnaround.

But there were also encouraging signs towards the end of the season from Che Adams. Nevertheless, it appears that Hasenhuttl may be in the market for another striker.

According to a report from The Sunday Mirror (16/8; page 67), the Saints have joined Newcastle in the race to sign Wood from Burnley.

The report notes that the Clarets value Wood at £13 million.

It would arguably be a huge surprise if Burnley were willing to sell for that price. Wood has topped their goalscoring charts in all competitions in each of the three seasons he has been at Turf Moor.

And some Southampton fans clearly cannot see their side signing the New Zealander during this window.

But what plenty have suggested is that Wood would arguably be a good addition – if there does prove to be anything in the rumours.

Some have claimed that he would tick a different box for Hasenhuttl’s side.
