A number of Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to comment on reports from The Telegraph claiming that Tottenham Hotspur have made an enquiry for Danny Ings.
Saints fans would have been forgiven for bracing themselves for interest in Ings. He scored 22 goals in the Premier League last season.
And Football London reported at the weekend that Ings was one of the strikers on Jose Mourinho’s wishlist. It was suggested that Spurs had a strong interest in the Englishman.
And it appears that they have now stepped up their interest. The Telegraph has suggested that they have now made an approach for the forward.
It is noted that no bid has been made, but The Telegraph does report that the Saints have made it clear that Ings will not be sold during this window.
It does appear that some of the Southampton fans on social media are hopeful that their club’s stance will not change – regardless of how much money may be put be on the table.
As noted by The Telegraph, Gareth Bale is closing in on a loan move to Tottenham, and some of the fans are not convinced that Spurs will be able to make the kind of bid that tempts Southampton to sanction his departure.
But with Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men not getting off to the best start this term, some of the fans have implored the club to not even consider letting him go.
Here is how some of the fans have reacted to the reports…
I think if Danny Ings were to leave Southampton it would have to be a club that would be a step up from Saints that could also guarantee playing time. Would be madness to alter his current situation to sit on a bench or be a sub somewhere at this point in his career.

If Ings is sold, then forget staying up. The fans have already turned on Gao (I have been since day 1) this will mean the majority. Lucky no fans in the stadium otherwise it would be toxic if he was sold. #saintsfc

If Ings was sold we nailed on relegated. Won’t happen though so happy with a 17th place finish goin off the first two matches and lack of squad depth. 😅 #saintsfc

I just dont see at any point Ings going to Spurs as they cant afford him. Saints have been in talks about extending his contract. Then we see this and in my eyes its all about putting pressure on the Club and his agent wanting to leverage more money.

Im just waiting for the final day of the transfer window “We can confirm Danny Ings has joined Spurs on a 1 year loan with option to buy” https://t.co/b2IBCru7Oa

If they’re getting Bale on loan I doubt they could afford to pay the £30m+ for Ings as well. I’m confident he will stay.

Strong stance from #SaintsFC and it needs to stay this way.
Our opening two games have been bad but I’m confident things will improve in the next month or so. Selling Ings would cause everything to fully crumble once again such is his importance, but looks like he‘ll be staying. https://t.co/AmXbowE54o
