Southampton fans react as Paulo Gazzaniga shines for Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield

Paulo Gazzaniga shined between the sticks for Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon as the north Londoners bravely fought against Liverpool but eventually losing 2-1 – and Southampton fans have reacted on Twitter to Gazzaniga’s display.

Gazzaniga, 27, has replaced Hugo Lloris in goal after the Spurs and France skipper suffered a dislocated elbow in the 3-0 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion earlier this month. Gazzaniga has now clocked up six appearances this season.

The one-time Argentina international made a colossal 12 saves during the 90 minutes, but failed to keep out Jordan Henderson’s equaliser and Mo Salah’s penalty. Liverpool finally earned a 2-1 win, after Harry Kane had put Spurs ahead.

Gazzaniga produced a number of excellent saves, denying Salah, Sadio Mane and Jordan Henderson as well as a pile driver from the edge of the area off the right boot of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The former Gillingham stopper has now clocked up 18 appearances for Tottenham since joining the club in the summer of 2017 from Southampton. During his time at Southampton, Gazzaniga was also a back-up goalkeeper, playing just 23 times.

Southampton fans reacted to their former goalkeeper’s performance on Twitter after watching him shine against Liverpool, and many cannot believe he is the same goalkeeper that struggled to play for Southampton.
