Southampton winger Nathan Redmond has committed his future to the club by signing a new four-year contract, as confirmed by the club’s official website.

The Englishman has come on leaps and bounds under Ralph Hasenhuttl and on a day of transfer business up and down the country, the Saints have moved to secure one of their top talents.

Redmond said: “I’m really happy to have signed, and I’m just wanting to get the season up and going now. We’ve got a great group here. It’s a pleasure to perform with them and train hard with them. We can hopefully build something special and to be a part of it for the next four years is good for me.”

Hasenhüttl said: “It is very good news for the club. He’s a player who showed in the last season that he is very important for Southampton and I think it’s a massive signal for the club, and for us all, that he wants to follow our way. It’s a very positive day for us.”

Southampton fans on Twitter were elated when the club’s official account confirmed the news – which got them as excited as any new signing on deadline day might.

It’s more likely to be about outgoings in terms of the transfer market today – which are needed to clear the wage bill and trim a bloated squad – but the Saints fans don’t seem to mind, they’re over the moon…
