Darren Bent has urged Tottenham Hotspur to sign Southampton striker Danny Ings in the coming weeks as cover for the injured Harry Kane – and Saints fans have reacted on Twitter to Bent’s suggestion.
England captain Kane has been ruled out until March with a hamstring injury, after limping off the field of play against Southampton which saw Ings score the only goal of the game. Jose Mourinho has since confirmed he has a tear in the muscle.
It leaves Spurs with little option up front. Following the exit of Fernando Llorente in the summer, Spurs lack a recognised senior striker. Troy Parrott is still 17, while Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura are better used out wide.
Former Spurs striker Bent believes Ings would be a top signing for his old team, given that the ex-Liverpool star is on fire at the moment with 15 goals in 23 league and cup outings for Southampton. He believes it would be a no brainer for Tottenhan.
“It’s a no-brainer. Spurs should go and get Danny Ings,” Bent told TalkSPORT on Monday. “If Daniel Levy was to be serious and go and get Ings, it would be a great signing.”
Southampton signed Ings in the summer of 2018 from Liverpool for a fee of £20million, and it is believed the Saints are paying Ings a whopping £75,000 a week. According to Spotrac, he is Southampton’s highest-paid player.
Southampton fans reacted to the news that Bent had urged Tottenham to sign their star player, and many have laughed off Ings leaving. Many believe that the striker would be foolish to back-up somewhere, when he is shining as Southampton’s main man.
It's his home town also. Would take a big purse for him to move now

To be fair when he is fit he scores. Not a purple patch, more of a fit patch. As a Saints Fan I hope he doesn’t leave, without him we’d be Norwich.

He’s at the club he loves adored by management & the fans.
He’s finally got fit after 4 years of hell, why after 1 half of a good season do presenters try & suggest he should go elsewhere ??

If JM actually managed his players fitness and conditioning properly he wouldnt need a quick solution to an injury problem. RH dropped Ings out a game during this festive period and has managed him superbly. Why leave a manager and club that cares and he loves?! #saintsfc

Why would he move to a club that he beat and why would we ever sell him
