Charlie Austin has completed his permanent move from Southampton to West Brom. Southampton’s official website confirmed Austin’s departure on transfer deadline day.

Austin pens a two-year deal after a fee of £4m was agreed between the two clubs, as per BBC Sport. This brings an end to three-and-a-half years with Southampton and he follows Grady Diangana to The Hawthorns on deadline day.

The 30-year-old scored 21 times in 80 games for the Saints. But now he is leaving to get more game time in a lower division. He joins Slaven Bilic at West Brom, who will be determined to fight for promotion this season.

Austin has big boots to fill at West Brom. Last season, the Baggies had two prolific forwards in Dwight Gayle and Jay Rodriguez. With Kenneth Zohore and Austin now playing up front, West Brom will be hoping to improve on last season’s play-off disappointment.

Southampton fans took to Twitter to discuss Austin’s departure after it was confirmed by the club’s official account. Quite a few fans were pleased to see the back of Austin, who has suffered from persistent injuries over the past few seasons.
