Southampton hosted Crystal Palace at St Mary’s last night in something of a relegation six-pointer given both clubs are placed precariously close to the Premier League relegation zone.
It was a match neither side wanted to lose and the eventual 1-1 draw suited both sides in some way, as Wilfried Zaha’s opening goal was cancelled out by James Ward-Prowse’s second half strike.
The English midfielder has three goals in his last three matches now and is a major reason why the Saints remain unbeaten in 2019, continuing their transformation under Ralph Hasenhuttl.

And while there has been collective improvement, Ward-Prowse is an individual who has clearly lifted his game since the Austrian was appointed.
He has gone from an inconsistent talent with a good dead-ball delivery to a relentless presser and battling presence in the engine room, with an eye for goal to match.
It’s safe to say that the Southampton fans are loving it – seeing one of their own play a key role in lifting the gloom in the wake of Mark Hughes’ ill-fated reign – and we’ve put together some of the best reaction from Twitter in the aftermath of the game…
