According to The Athletic, Southampton are considering a move for RB Leipzig striker Alexander Sørloth, previously of Crystal Palace.
The Saints have lost Danny Ings after he joined Aston Villa in a £30m deal.
Now, they could turn to the 32-cap Norway international in an attempt to replace the England international’s goals.
If Ralph Hasenhuttl does bring the 25-year-old to St Mary’s, Crystal Palace could be made to look very foolish.
Why would Crystal Palace look foolish?
Well, in 2020, the Eagles sold Sørloth to RB Leipzig, having failed to give him much of a chance in English football.
Under Roy Hodgson, the Trondheim-born striker made just 20 appearances in two years at Selhurst Park, scoring one goal.

Sørloth made only four Premier League starts, and was given just 533 minutes in England’s top-flight.
In that respect, if Southampton bring him back to England and he thrives, it would make Crystal Palace’s decision to bench him, and sell him, look hasty and foolish.
Is Alexander Sørloth likely to thrive?
In our view, the Norwegian has all the tools to do well in the Premier League.
Sørloth is a player of real physique, and he’s also pretty quick for his size.
In 49 appearances on loan at Trabzonspor, he impressively scored 33 goals, so he certainly knows where the back of the net is.

The Eagles will be hoping he doesn’t come back, as he will surely be motivated to succeed after his harsh treatment in south London.
If Southampton get this deal over the line, it will be interesting to see if he makes Crystal Palace regret their 2020 decision – keep your eyes peeled.
