Dean Windass has claimed that James Ward-Prowse won’t leave Southampton for Aston Villa
The former Hull City player also said that he thinks the Saints will finish above the Villains next year
Windass claimed that his hold of the captaincy makes him a big fish in the St Mary’s Stadium pond.
Ward-Prowse has been the subject of interest from the Villains over the last few weeks. It is being claimed Dean Smith wants to add the player to his engine room.
He enjoyed a great season with the Saints last season, scoring nine goals and registering seven assists. However, he still failed to make England’s squad for Euro 2020.
Windass said: “I can’t see Ward-Prowse leaving Southampton for Villa because, in my opinion, I think Southampton will finish above Villa next year.”
“Why would he want to leave? He’s captain of Southampton and he’s a big fish in their pond so like I said earlier on, why would he want to go?”

TBR View: Aston Villa possess more quality to finish above Southampton amid Ward-Prowse claims
Windass’ comments that Southampton will finish above Aston Villa seem far-fetched amid his claims about Ward-Prowse.
The Villains retain an abundance of quality across all areas of the pitch. Meanwhile, the south coast outfit will need a big summer after a desperate campaign last year.
Bertrand Traore, Jack Grealish and Ollie Watkins are players that have the age and quality to push the club onto greater things moving forward.
However, aside from this claim, his comments about the ‘exceptional‘ England international could be true.
The lure of being captain at a top-flight side could prove greater than a move to a midtable club.
It will be hard to see why the 26-year-old would want to move to the Midlands.
The competition for the European places are extremely high, leaving Villa as outsiders. And whilst their desire to compete is admirable, it’s unlikely they can match the financial capacities of the teams above them.
It’s easy to see Windass’ reasoning for why Ward-Prowse won’t leave Southampton. However, his claims Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men won’t finish above the Villains is crazy to say the least.
