‘Sources close to West Ham’… Journalist shares what he’s now hearing about Eric Dier’s potential move

Eric Dier looks set to leave Tottenham this month.

The centre-back is completely out of favour at Spurs right now, and he’s being linked with a number of moves.

One club who has been linked with a move for Dier recently are West Ham United, but according to Ben Jacobs, that move isn’t all that likely.

Indeed, speaking on Last Word on Spurs, Jacobs says that sources close to West Ham have been playing down these links, but he did note that Luton Town may be one of the clubs taking a look as well.

Jacobs shared what he’s heard about the England international.

“Eric Dier is free to leave, it’s as simple as that, Tottenham are thinking about getting the salary off the books, that’s the concern there. There have been West Ham links and I don’t want to pour cold water on them, but they have been downplayed by sources close to West Ham, but the interest is legitimate enough. The other interesting bit of information I received a couple of days ago is that Luton Town could be one of the clubs taking a look as well, so keep an eye on that one, you’ve heard that first here,” Jacobs said.

Space in the squad there for Dier

West Ham may be playing the Dier links down, but there will soon be a space for a new centre-back in their squad.

Indeed, Thilo Kehrer is about to move to Monaco, and Dier would act as a perfect replacement for the German.

It has to be said that Dier is a very David Moyes player. Much like Harry Maguire, who West Ham courted over the summer, he’s a no-nonsense defender who doesn’t mess about at the back.

West Ham may be playing this rumour down, but don’t be shocked if Dier ultimately does rock up at the London Stadium.
