Everton signed Jean-Philippe Gbamin from Mainz for a huge £25million to act as Idrissa Gueye’s replacement, but the Ivorian has now been ruled out for two months with a thigh problem – so should Everton regret an £8.5million decision?
BBC Sport claim the 23-year-old suffered the muscle problem in Everton training, and is now set to be on the sidelines until what could be late November or even December. It gives Marco Silva little option in midfield.
The Toffees currently boast new signings Andre Gomes and Fabian Delph, as well as Morgan Schneiderlin and Tom Davies. But Schneiderlin does not have a good relationship with the fans and has not started the campaign as well as he would have liked.
Davies is still young, while Delph is yet to make his Everton bow due to a groin injury he picked up during pre-season. So, should Everton have been so willing to offload Ireland international and previously long-time Toffee James McCarthy?

McCarthy, 28, ended a six-year spell at Goodison Park in the summer by opting to agree to a £8.5million move (Sky Sports) to Crystal Palace. During his time on Merseyside, he clocked up 133 appearances in all competitions.
Following a desperate spell with injuries, McCarthy is fit and raring to go andhas made two substitute appearances for Palace this season – helping the Eagles see out a stunning 2-1 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford.
With Schneiderlin out of form, Davies still learning and Delph yet to make his debut, should Everton have kept ahold of McCarthy this summer? The injury to Gbamin suggests they may have been too eager to offload the Irishman.
