Soualiho Meite has become a top transfer target in recent weeks. Gazzetta dello Sport suggested yesterday that Tottenham Hotspur failed in a move to sign the Torino midfielder this month. However, they were rebuffed. Torino also rejected a £13.5 million bid from Roma earlier in the month, according to CalcioMercato.
Meite has been in fine form for Torino this season. The powerhouse midfielder has been an ever-present in the side and there is no surprise that such big teams were keen.
Crystal Palace will undoubtedly be wondering what might have been. Meite has been a target for the Eagles in the past.
In the summer, L’Equipe suggested Crystal Palace were one of several teams keen on his signature. The French publication suggested the Monaco man was being chased by a number of clubs and Palace would have undoubtedly welcomed the 6ft 2ins powerhouse.
Instead, he swapped Monaco for Torino, in a deal which saw Antonio Barreca go in the other direction.
However, this does not seem to be the only time Palace have missed out on the player. In 2017, Palace were linked by the Daily Mail with a move after he had impressed on loan at Zulte Waregem from Lille. On that occasion, he headed to Monaco.
Twice Crystal Palace appear to have missed out on Meite and he is now attracting the interest of two top European clubs. It seems this was a missed opportunity from the Eagles.
