‘Sorry Mikel’: Emmanuel Frimpong shocked at what Arsenal boss did last night

Emmanuel Frimpong has criticised Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta for one of his substitutions in Tuesday night’s Premier League defeat to Wolves.

The Gunners were beaten 2-1 at Molineux, and also finished the game with nine men.

Arsenal took the lead on 32 minutes through Nicolas Pepe but ended the half level and with a man down.

David Luiz was controversially sent off for being adjudged to have brought Willian Jose down in the box, and Ruben Neves netted the resulting penalty to equalise.

Joao Moutinho then put Wolves ahead with a long-range piledriver in the 49th minute.

Worse was to come as Arsenal went down to nine when Bernd Leno inexplicably handled outside his box with Adama Traore bearing down on him.

During the break, Arteta replaced striker Alexandre Lacazette with Gabriel Magalhaes, and former Arsenal midfielder Frimpong was shocked at what the coach did.

The Frenchman’s withdrawal wasn’t the only controversial decision Arteta made – his call to take Thomas Partey off instead of the tired Emile Smith Rowe was also criticised.

Having no Lacazette and no Partey greatly reduced Arsenal’s attacking threat and, as such, it wasn’t surprising they couldn’t find a way back into the game.
