A Celtic fan has posted on Twitter that he would love to see Sheffield Wednesday striker Gary Hooper return to Parkhead this summer as his contract is set to expire – and Hooper has dropped a big hint in response.

The 31-year-old’s contract at English Championship side Wednesday is due to expire at the end of June. With less than two months until that date, it looks as though he is set to leave Hillsborough.

The English striker managed just his sixth appearance of the season on Sunday afternoon, as Wednesday suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat to QPR at home. Hooper came on for the final 12 minutes.

It’s a spark contrast to his three-year spell at Celtic between 2010 and 2013, where he scored a whopping 82 goals in 138 games. He is loved by Celtic fans, so much so that a supporter urged him to return – which Hooper retweeted.

TBR’s view

Do Celtic need Hooper? Probably not. Leigh Griffiths is supposedly closing in on a return, while Vakoun Issouf Bayo is yet to get up to speed but their is certainly hype surrounding the Ivorian. Odsonne Edouard is far better than the current Hooper.

It raises another question. Is Hooper good enough for Celtic? Also, probably not. His form for Sheffield Wednesday is far below what it was at Celtic during his peak years.

Now 31 years of age, he is a world apart from the man that was sold by Celtic to Norwich City for a whopping £5.2million (Record) in 2013. Celtic should avoid the striker.
