Leeds United produced an excellent display to secure a point against Liverpool on Monday night and Crystal Palace defender Patrick van Aanholt, who has been linked with Leeds, has joked the Whites should be in the Super League.

Leeds came from behind to earn a point on Monday night against the reigning Premier League champions – as Diego Llorente’s header from a Jack Harrison corner cancelled out Sadio Mane’s opener. Leeds had numerous chances.

The Whites probably edged the match as they dominated the second half. Patrick Bamford hit the bar with a delicious effort while Jack Harrison’s close-range shot was blocked by Alisson. The scoreline ended, reading 1-1.

Van Aanholt was impressed. The Palace left-back, who is out of contract this summer and a target for Leeds – as per The Mirror – joked that Leeds should be in the Super League having watched the Whites outclass Liverpool.

TBR’s view – Van Aanholt opinion punches hole in Super League

One of the major issues with the proposed Super League is that the clubs involved – most notably Tottenham and Arsenal – are struggling in this season’s Premier League. West Ham, Leicester and Everton are better placed.

Leeds are level on points with Arsenal. While van Aanholt was making a joke in regards to Leeds being in the Super League, it is a valid point. Why do the likes of Arsenal and Spurs have a divine right to play in the ESL?
