Spurs and Arsenal were heavily linked with Lautaro Martinez over the summer.
But neither was able to get a deal over the line, and now Tottenham and the Gunners could be left even more disappointed.
At the start of August, Spurs were seemingly closing in on the Argentina international forward.

Indeed, The Times reported that Spurs had agreed a fee with Inter that could go above £60million.
However, Romano then claimed the Italian club turned them – and Atletico Madrid – down, opting to keep Martinez.
Meanwhile, The Athletic recently said Arsenal technical director Edu had tried to sign the 24-year-old for the Gunners this summer.
Martinez’s current contract only runs until 2023, which could’ve given Spurs and Arsenal hope of trying again next year.
But now, Romano has claimed that Inter are working on contract extensions.
And Martinez is apparently in line for a new five-year deal.
Martinez has hit the ground running this season with a goal in his sole Serie A appearance so far, against Verona.
He missed the league opener against Genoa with a muscle issue.
Last season, Martinez claimed 19 goals and 11 assists from 48 competitive appearances in all competitions.
He has also won 28 caps for Argentina, scoring an impressive 14 goals in his nation’s colours.
