Son Heung-min has suggested that he was left stunned by the display of Hugo Lloris after Tottenham Hotspur beat Aston Villa, describing his performance as ‘insane’ – in comments reports by The Independent.

Spurs strengthened their grip on the top-four race in the Premier League. They beat Aston Villa 4-0 at Villa Park, with Son scoring a hat-trick. Harry Kane meanwhile, provided three assists for the visitors.

However, the scoreline did not tell anything like the full story of the game. Villa certainly had their chances to end their losing run in the Premier League.

Unfortunately for Steven Gerrard’s side, they came up against an inspired Lloris. The Frenchman made eight saves during the 90 minutes, according to Whoscored. In contrast, Emi Martinez managed just one down the other end of the pitch.

Son, understandably, was named man of the match for Tottenham. However, the forward seemed to hint that it was Lloris’ performance that stood out to him.

“What can I say? He saved us. We are scoring goals but if Hugo wasn’t there we were probably 3-1 or 4-1 down,” he said, as reported by The Independent.

“Because Hugo saved us in a tough time when we needed him, he was turning like a superman, like a cat. It is insane, when he made the first save (from Ramsey) it was really close to him and the shot came really he just had them. He was like a cat. Hugo saved us.

Hugo Lloris back to his best as Tottenham push for Champions League return

It has been known for sometime that Lloris is going to be staying for another year at least. He recently signed a new contract at Tottenham.

However, his form in the weeks since that deal was announced was a little more underwhelming. And he did make some errors.

But he looked back to his colossal best against Villa. And it is certainly ominous for Spurs’ top-four rivals that they won at a canter, even when they are not quite at the races.
