Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has described the Leeds United home crowd as “incredible” ahead of their Premier League meeting on Sunday.

The Gunners will hope to make it seven wins in a row in all competitions when they head to Elland Road.

Arsenal are up against a Leeds side which began the 2022-23 campaign brightly, but have since faltered.

The Whites took seven points from their opening three matches, but have failed to win their last five.

While Arsenal will be favourites on paper, they’ll have to play in front of a passionate fanbase that won’t make it easy for them.

Arteta, speaking to the Gunners media team, noted how he had never seen anything like the Leeds crowd when they went there last season.

Even though Arsenal ran out 4-1 winners, the Gunners boss was blown away by the Elland Road faithful’s support on the day.

“I think so,” Arteta replied when asked whether Arsenal are better equipped to stand up to hostile atmosphere like Leeds.

“But last year it was incredible – even when we were winning 3-0 that crowd is something that I’ve never seen before, and you can sense that.

“Every time I watch them and I’ve seen some games already and you can hear the noise, so we know how it’s going to be.”

Leeds fans will love to hear Arteta – who has enjoyed a career at the top of the game as player and manager – say the Elland Road atmosphere is second to none.

The Whites have a tough game ahead of them, but the fans will try – and are certainly able – to make a difference.
