'Somebody pinch me': Some Newcastle fans react to manager approach report

A number of Newcastle United fans have given their thoughts on the report claiming Antonio Conte has been approached by the Magpies.

According to 90Min, third parties linked with the new Newcastle owners have reportedly made contact with Conte over the manager’s job.

The 52-year-old is currently a free agent, having left Inter Milan in the summer after leading them to the Serie A title.

Conte boasts an impressive CV and is very much one of the top coaches in world football right now.

Austria 0-1 Scotland: Steve Clarke's men shine in Vienna to provide huge World Cup boost

He has won a Premier League and FA Cup at Chelsea, on top of four Serie A titles, two Italian Super Cups and a Serie B title.

Conte has also managed Italy, leading them to the Euro 2016 quarter-finals and only losing to Germany on penalties.

Meanwhile, Newcastle have been taken over by a consortium which consists of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), financier Amanda Staveley and David and Simon Reuben.

The PIF is reportedly worth around £315bn, and Staveley says the new club owners have “the same ambitions as Manchester City and PSG”, deeming the takeover “hugely transformative”.

This means an uncertain future for Steve Bruce amid reports that the new owners want to bring in someone new in the St James’ Park dugout.

Newcastle are likely to see a lot of investment across the club, including the playing and coaching staff, and it’s not surprising to see a manager of Conte’s calibre linked with the role.

Needless to say, the 90Min report is music to a lot of Newcastle fans’ ears:
