Some West Ham fans react as club bid £18 million for coveted midfielder

West Ham United have reportedly lodged an £18 million bid to sign Andre Gomes (The Times).

The Barcelona man impressed on loan at Everton for the 2018/19 season, and a host of clubs have been credited with an interest in him leading up to the summer transfer window.

The Toffees want to keep hold of the 25-year-old, while Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are both said to be keen.

He is apparently surplus to requirements at the Nou Camp with the Catalan giants boasting an array of top-class players in his position.

Many have anticipated who will be the first to swoop for Gomes, but few would have predicted it would be West Ham.

Manuel Pellegrini doesn’t have an array of central midfielders so it is understandable they would want to move for Gomes.

£18 million is a fairly low offer though and Barca will almost certainly reject it knowing how well he did with Everton in 2018/19.
