Some West Ham fans blast BBC Pundit for harsh TOTW omission

BBC Pundit has selected his Premier League Team of the Week, and his choices have caused a bit of controversy.

The former Newcastle United striker selected Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers, with a back four of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Vincent Kompany, Nathan Ake and Matt Doherty.

In midfield, he went with Mark Noble, Leander Dendoncker and Andros Townsend, with Eden Hazard, Salomon Rondon and Marko Arnautovic in attack.

After seeing Shearer’s selection of Alexander-Arnold, many West Ham fans expressed their anger as they felt Ryan Fredericks should have been acknowledged instead.

The Englishman produced arguably his finest display in West Ham colours since joining the club last summer.

Not only did he have an amazing game defensively, the full-back also bagged his first Premier League goal for the club.

Fredericks was so good at the London Stadium, that respected football statistics website WhoScored gave him a rare perfect 10 score. He is the first defender since Thomas Vermaelen way back in 2009 to achieve such a feat.

West Ham fans react

Shearer’s snub for Fredericks incensed a number of Hammers supporters, who felt that the Newcastle legend must not have watched their game against Southampton closely enough.

Some also accused him of bias towards the big clubs:
