Some Tottenham fans react to Antonio Conte demanding £15m contract

Some Tottenham Hotspur fans have been reacting on social media to reports by the Mirror, claiming Antonio Conte wants a £15million annual salary to replace Jose Mourinho.

Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy is in talks with Conte over replacing Mourinho two months after firing the Portuguese coach. But Conte has major concerns over taking up the vacant north London hot seat after walking out on Inter Milan.

One major concern is the state of the Tottenham squad and whether they can compete in the Premier League. Another is what funds Levy will make available for transfers, plus the question marks over Harry Kane’s future.

Levy is prepared to promise Conte a major war chest after accepting Tottenham need to be a majorly overhauled. He is also determined to keep Kane at the club against interest from Manchester United, Man City and Chelsea.

Celtic fans left short-changed by Sky Sports once again

But one final hurdle after extensive negotiations will be Conte’s wage with the former Chelsea boss demanding a huge wage. His salary could reach as much as £15m-a-year, the same as what Mourinho earned at Spurs (The Sun).

Only Man City boss Pep Guardiola (£20m-a/y) earns more in the Premier League, ahead of Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp (£15m-a/y).

Conte’s base salary at Inter Milan was worth €13m-a/y (£11m, La Stampa). But he walked away over the club’s plans to sell key players after leading the San Siro side to the Serie A title last season.

Tottenham fans split on Conte wage demands

But Tottenham fans reacting on social media are split over whether or not Conte deserves such a wage. That’s because some believe the Italian’s demands are far too high for Levy to agree to pay.

However, others argue Conte has proven he is worthy of a contract to the same amount as what Mourinho brought home. The Italian won the Premier League and FA Cup while in charge of Chelsea, plus three Serie As with Juventus.

If he can now bring success to north London, a few Tottenham fans would find it hard to argue him deserving such a lucrative wage after 13 years without a major trophy.
