A report in Portugal from Sport has claimed that Philippe Coutinho had agreed on a move to Tottenham in 2019 before seeing it fall through.
The Brazilian joined Bayern Munich on loan, leaving Tottenham to wonder what might have been had they signed the former Liverpool star.
Bayern do hold an option to sign Coutinho in the summer for £101 million but it’s believed that they won’t exercise that option.

If he returns to Barcelona they will allow him to leave for a fee in the region of £77 million, which might alert some clubs towards his availability.
One stumbling block for Tottenham might have been his salary. The Express has previously reported that Coutinho earns an eyewatering £240,000-a-week at the Nou Camp.
Mauricio Pochettino tried desperately in the summer to sign some attacking quality and it’s no surprise he pursued Coutinho.
The attacking midfielder can play out wide or as an attacking midfielder.
In 201 appearances for Liverpool, he netted 54 goals and registered 45 assists before his £142 million move to Barcelona (BBC).

Following the update on Coutinho, Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to discuss the breakdown.
Some aren’t surprised given the reputation of Daniel Levy over transfers, whilst others have raved about Coutinho.
