The versatile 26-year-old started as the left-sided centre-back in the game against Lincoln at the Stadium of Light.

Given he played in an unfamiliar position, there were a few nervy moments where he was caught out, but on the whole he played very well for Lee Johnson’s side.

In addition, he converted one of Sunderland’s five penalties in the shootout to help send the Black Cats to Wembley.

While Charlie Wyke and Aiden McGeady once again stood out for their fifth goal-and-assist combo in two games, plenty of fans were also eager to praise O’Nien for his efforts.
