Some Sunderland fans think they've unearthed a real diamond

A number of Sunderland fans have waxed lyrical about Dan Neil after yet another superb display for the Black Cats.

The 19-year-old midfielder has come through the ranks at the Stadium of Light and become a regular for Lee Johnson’s side.

The Black Cats are in great form, winning seven of their last eight games in all competitions.

They’ve bounced back from their 4-0 loss at Portsmouth earlier this month, winning their subsequent four matches in all competitions.

And on Tuesday, in their League One trip to Crewe, Sunderland dished our a 4-0 hammering of their own.

The Wearside outfit took the lead on 25 minutes through Terell Thomas’ own goal before Ross Stewart netted seven minutes later.

Sunderland added two more goals after the break, Stewart netting his second and Leon Dajaku also getting on the scoresheet.

And Neil once again impressed, showing great composure to set up Stewart’s first and also weighing in with some crunching tackles.

Sunderland fans were delighted with the youngster’s display and praised him on Twitter after the game:
