A number of Sunderland fans have taken to Twitter to praise Josh Hawkes for his Monday night display as the Black Cats Under-23s reached the Premier League 2 Division 2 playoff final.
The 22-year-old attacker has enjoyed a superb season in the Premier League 2, registering a staggering 13 goals and six assists from 20 matches.
And on Monday night, Hawkes played a major role in helping Sunderland’s U23s run out 2-0 winners at Stoke in their semi-final in Staffordshire.

The former Hartlepool man was a thorn in the opposition’s side all game, coming close on several occasions, before breaking the deadlock early in the second half.
Hawkes slotted home from the edge of the area after being teed up by Stephen Wearne.
And on 65 minutes, Hawkes turned provider for Younger, who glanced a fine header into the top left corner.
The Stockton-born ace has made just one senior appearance for Sunderland and is yet to feature in the league for Lee Johnson’s side.
