Sunderland picked up a hard-fought win in League One yesterday, defeating Doncaster Rovers at the Keepmoat Stadium. The win, courtesy of Chris Maguire’s goal early in the second-half, was one that Doncaster will feel came against the run of play.
There is little doubt that Jon McLaughlin was the pick of the bunch for the Black Cats. The Scottish keeper made a number of crucial saves to keep Sunderland in the lead.
But there were plenty of performances that deserved praise. One of those performances came from loanee Jerome Sinclair.

Signed from Watford in the summer, his start to life at Sunderland has been difficult. He picked up an early injury and then struggled to establish himself in the first-team. However, in recent weeks he has been a regular. Last night, in the absence of an injured Josh Maja, he was asked to lead the line alone in Yorkshire.
His performance certainly deserves some credit. The loanee worked himself into the ground for the cause, never giving the Doncaster defence a moments peace. He was unfortunate not to win a penalty at one point in the game and Sunderland fans were impressed with his effort.
If he could stop being caught offside, then Sunderland might have a real double threat up front with him and Maja firing.
