Some Sunderland fans impressed by George Honeyman’s recent displays

Sunderland are through to the next round of the FA Cup after picking up a 2-1 win against Port Vale. The Black Cats raced into an early lead. George Honeyman scored in the first minute from a Chris Maguire assist. Lynden Gooch then made it 2-0 after 19 minutes and Sunderland were in cruise control.

Tom Pope scored for the home side in the 35th minute but Sunderland went on to hold out and win the game.

There were plenty of solid performances from the Sunderland team. Tom Flanagan continues to look assured whilst Jon McLaughlin is one of the more consistent goalkeepers in the Football League right now. Max Power also impressed coming off the bench.

But the scorer of the first goal, Honeyman, deserves a special mention.

He had one of his better games and the captain deserved such a display. His form in recent weeks has been impressive and Sunderland fans have even had to admit that themselves.

Honeyman has had plenty of detractors during his time at the Stadium of Light. But his performances are undoubtedly getting better and that was reflected in some of the reaction to his display on Twitter…
