A number of Spurs fans have waxed lyrical about Alfie Devine’s latest display for Tottenham’s Under-23s.

The 17-year-old midfielder joined the Spurs academy last summer from Wigan.

Devine, previously on Liverpool’s books, was one of the brightest young talents on the Latics’ books.

Jamie Carragher, whose son James came through the Wigan academy, described Devine as “top class” and was “gutted” the Latics didn’t keep him.

The England Under-19 international has been making waves at Spurs and has already made his senior debut.

Indeed, his appearance against Marine in the FA Cup earlier this year made him the youngest player to have turned out for Spurs in a senior game.

According to The Athletic, former Spurs boss Jose Mourinho told Devine that he reminded him of Bruno Fernandes.

At age level, Devine has already clocked up 15 appearances for Tottenham’s Under-23s.

He also has three goals to his name at Premier League 2 level, the latest one of those coming on Friday.

The midfielder opened the scoring for Spurs against Arsenal’s U23s, though he couldn’t prevent them from falling to a 2-1 defeat.

Nonetheless, Spurs fans were impressed by Devine and praised him on Twitter:
