Some Spurs fans think Christian Eriksen was mocking Arsenal last night

A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to respond to the message posted by Spurs cult hero Christian Eriksen, some thinking he was making fun of Arsenal after the Gunners’ elimination from the Europa League.

The Denmark international left the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in January to link up with Italian giants Inter Milan, who like Arsenal were in Europa League round of 32 second-leg action on Thursday night.

Inter had beaten Ludogorets Razgrad 2-0 in Bulgaria in the first leg and finished the job without a hitch at the San Siro with a 2-1 victory, Cristiano Biraghi and Romelu Lukaku getting the goals for Antonio Conte’s side.

No such luck for Tottenham’s North London rivals, however, as Arsenal were taken to extra time by Olympiakos, Pape Abou Cisse’s goal early in the second half levelling the tie.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s overhead kick in the 113th minute seemed to have nudged the Gunners into the next round, but late on, Arsenal conceded again, this time through the unmarked Youssef El Arabi’s effort.

To add insult to injury, the player who had scored for Arsenal and has effectively carried them for much of the season then spurned a gilt-edged opportunity to score late on, a miss which ended up costing the Gunners a place in the next round.

Eriksen’s message after the Inter game was pretty straightforward and seemed to pertain solely to the Nerazzurri:

But some Tottenham fans couldn’t help but speculate:

There was also praise for Eriksen for his game by Spurs and Inter fans alike:
