Some Spurs fans laud Kasper Dolberg after Euro 2020 display
A number of Spurs fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Kasper Dolberg after the striker helped fire Denmark into the quarter-finals of Euro 2020 at the expense of Wales.
The opening last 16 tie appeared to be incredibly tough to call. The Danes had got themselves through in dramatic circumstances after an emotional win over Russia.
Wales meanwhile, had booked their spot in much more comfortable fashion. Four points from their opening two games meant that there was little concern as they edged towards a 1-0 loss to Italy.
And Denmark’s cause was not helped in the build-up to the contest with the news that Yussuf Poulsen was set to miss out due to injury.
The injury meant that Dolberg was called into the side by Kasper Hjulmand for a tie in a stadium he knows very well.
The 23-year-old began his career in Amsterdam with Ajax. So it should have probably come as little surprise that he would go on to steal the show.
Dolberg outstanding as Denmark continue their incredible Euro 2020 journey
Wales looked set to set the tone in the early stages. Rob Page’s men were the better side, and were not far from taking the lead thanks to a Gareth Bale strike from distance.
But Denmark grew into the game after a tactical change that saw Andreas Christensen push out of the backline.
And the Danes took the lead shortly before the half hour. Dolberg curled a delicious effort into the bottom corner for only his eighth international goal.
He would then capitalise on a Neco Williams mistake early on in the second-half to double their lead.
Denmark would go on to win 4-0 to set up a quarter-final with either the Netherlands or the Czech Republic.
And Dolberg looks to have a big claim to keep his place for the last eight tie.
Dolberg has not had the easiest few years. After scoring 23 goals in all competitions in the 2016/17 campaign, the Dane managed just 22 strikes across his final 71 games for Ajax.
His time at Nice started encouragingly with 11 Ligue 1 goals in his first year following his £18 million move. However, he went into this summer off the back of a campaign in which he scored just six times.
Spurs fans keen on Dolberg after difficult spell for striker
But Saturday’s performance was a reminder of what he can do. Not only did he take his two goals brilliantly, but he produced some sublime touches.
Spurs starlet Joe Rodon had had a fantastic tournament. And yet, he and Chris Mepham seemed unable to cope with Dolberg throughout the game.
And with that, many Tottenham fans are now suggesting that they would love to see the club target the striker.
Of course, such a move would be a gamble. While Harry Kane remains in North London, any attacking coming in is likely to be a backup.
And Dolberg has a lot more to prove before people can say that he is back on track.
But plenty of Spurs fans have implored the club to keep an eye on the forward in case he is about to experience a big turnaround in his career.
Here is how they reacted as Dolberg shone on his full Euro 2020 bow…
I’d love to have the likes of #Mæhle, #Damsgaard and #Dolberg in our squad. Their stocks have risen after that performance, and #Spurs could do with a few more vikings within the football club. #COYS #THFC #WAL #DEN #EURO2020 pic.twitter.com/986hpVCPgm
