A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Brooklyn Lyons-Foster’s display as Spurs Under-23s were beaten by Leyton Orient in the inaugural JE3 Cup on Wednesday night.

Wayne Burnett’s charges took on the League Two side in a pre-season match at the Breyer Group Stadium but didn’t get off to the best start and found themselves three goals down within the first half hour.

However, Tottenham’s U23s rallied round through Dylan Markanday, who cut in from the left and fired inside the near post on 37 minutes, and Elliot Thorpe, who ran onto a low ball into the box from the right and drilled home.

Spurs couldn’t build on their deficit-reducing exploits after the interval though, with Orient adding another three in the second half for a 6-2 victory over the North Londoners.

Despite the defeat, Lyons-Foster put in a good performance, the versatile 19-year-old defender being deployed in defensive midfield for some of the game.

Here is what some Spurs fans said about his display:

Lyons-Foster came through the ranks at Spurs and made 14 Premier League 2 appearances last term, plus a further two apiece in the UEFA Youth League and EFL Trophy, according to Transfermarkt.

Last summer, he was rewarded for his heroics at Under-18 level with a spot in the first team squad that travelled to Singapore and Shanghai for friendlies.

In April, Football London listed him as one of 11 Spurs academy players who “could eventually save Levy millions”, comparing him to Eric Dier.
