Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney was in international action last night, the Gunners man playing the full 90 minutes as Scotland earned a 1-1 draw with Israel in the UEFA Nations League.
The 23-year-old, who was one of Mikel Arteta’s most in-form players after the resumption of English football, was back in the Scotland fold after a 13-game absence.
Tierney lined up on the left side of a back three, a role he’s grown familiar with at the Emirates Stadium over the past few weeks.
While Tierney is a left-back by trade, he has shown his versatility in recent months, and as such, he took a more central role while Andrew Robertson was pushed further up the left flank.
The 23-year-old put in a solid display for his nation both defensively and offensively, often finding himself covering for Robertson, who got caught out on a number of occasions.
Here is what some Scotland fans made of his performance:
Scotland need to stop playing tierney in any position he fits just because he’s good. Play players in their correct position and you’ll see better results

Kieran Tierney doing a solid job as Scotland’s defender tonight.

Kieran Tierney is Scotland’s best player. Love Robertson to bits but i feel he doesn’t carry over the same magic to scotland from liverpool imo

Robertson is only good with Liverpool with world class players around him. He’s no use to this Scotland team. Tierney should be in ahead of him every time in a 4 at the back.

Tierney the best player in the Scotland team by a mile tonight

Robertson can get dropped for a starter, he’s been bang average every game in a Scotland Jersey, can’t hand the captaincy and Tierney has been out best players and is far more of a leader. #SCOISR

Tierney been Scotland’s best player easy. Starting Ryan Jack over Armstrong is wild.

Scotland were poor with McGregor and Christie giving up possession too much. Thought Dykes done alright given what he had to work with. But says something that our MOTM was probably Tierney

Not the worst result for Scotland, Israel took their goal well to be fair. Thought Kieran Tierney was outstanding at centre half, proof that he and Andy Robertson can be accommodated in the national team. Jack, McGinn and Christie played well too. We keep going 🏴👍

Scotland took the lead late in the first half through a Ryan Christie penalty, but Eran Zahavi’s goal after 73 minutes meant Clarke’s side had to settle for a point.
The result leaves Scotland sitting third in Group 2 of League B, with the Czech Republic leading the way on three points.
Scotland were supposed to take on the Czechs on Monday but the game has been called off.
