Rangers fans may not have noticed it amid the joy of seeing Celtic get dumped out of the Champions League by CFR Cluj but the club’s youngsters were in action last night.

The Rangers ‘Colts’ side took on Stranraer in the Scottish Challenge Cup and came away with an impressive 2-0 win from Stair Park. The result puts them into the third round of the competition with many Rangers fans hopeful they could go all the way.

Plenty of names known to the Rangers fanbase featured in the game, including Josh McPake, Dabo Medupe, and Eros Grezda. But it was Jamie Barjonas who received much of the praise.

The 20-year-old had previously looked like becoming an Ibrox regular under the management of both Pedro Caixinha and Graeme Murty. However, he has found first-team chances hard to come by under Steven Gerrard.

Barjonas has not played for the Rangers first-team since December 2017 and had loan spells at Bury and Raith Rovers last term, with varying degrees of success.

But he is back at Rangers and is clearly enjoying his time with the Colts. He put in a fantastic midfield display last night and even bagged himself a goal to secure the 2-0 triumph.

Rangers fans who saw him in action were impressed and in general, it seems fans are happy that the youngsters are through to the next round of the competition.
