Rangers are interested in signing Anderlecht defender James Lawrence this summer.
According to The Daily Record, Steven Gerrard is keen to snap up the five-cap Wales international, who could cost in the region on £3 million.
The 26-year-old has trodden an unusual path in his footballing career so far.
Having played for Arsenal and QPR as a kid, he moved to the Netherlands 2008 to sign for HFC Haarlem.
He then moved to Ajax, Sparta Rotterdam and RKC Waalwijk, before joining Slovakian side AS Trenčín aged 21.
It was there he got his first taste of regular first-team football, spending four seasons at the Štadión na Sihoti.
He transferred to Anderlecht last summer and made 35 appearances in all competitions in his first season.
Rangers currently only have Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic for the central defensive positions, with Joe Worrall having returned to parent club Nottingham Forest.
Veteran Gareth McAuley has come to the end of his one-year deal at Ibrox.
Rangers fans react
The reaction from a lot of Rangers fans to the reported interest in Lawrence was not particularly positive.
A fair amount don’t really know anything about him, given his obscure career path so far.
But there were some open to the potential transfer:
Cant see it. But would like to be proved wrong

£3m for a 26 year old with no pedigree of note, deemed surplus to requirements after half a season at his current club, in a position we have two CBs good enough to start? No thanks. At that money it’d have to be either something special or one for the future. He’d be neither.

Literally never heard of him. Anyone know if he’s any good? Anderlecht are probably the biggest club in Belgium so he must have something about him.

Lot of Welsh supporters unconvinced by him, and there were reports Anderlecht have been trying to move him on for a while. A £3m fee seems excessive.https://t.co/sYCtQm8B14
