Some Rangers and Celtic fans united in disagreement over stats-based Team of the Season

A number of Glasgow Rangers and Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to disagree over Ryan Christie making Whoscored’s Scottish Premiership Team of the Season so far.

A great season for the Ibrox contingent, combined with a poor campaign by the Parkhead side, is reflected by the presence of six Gers players and just two Hoops players.

James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, Borna Barisic, Joe Aribo, Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos made the cut in the Whoscored XI, as featured on Sky Sports.

Meanwhile, just Christie and Odsonne Edouard feature from the green and white camp.

The XI is completed by Dundee United’s Benjamin Siegrist, Paul Hanlon of Hibernian, and Hakeem Odoffin of Hamilton Academical.

On the subject of Christie, Whoscored wrote: “The first of two Celtic players to make the cut, Ryan Christie was a bright spark in a disappointing season for the Bhoys.

“Maximising his creative talents, Christie ranked fourth for both key passes (61) and clear-cut chances created (8), while only two players made more assists than the Scotland international (8).

“An additional four goals helped the 26-year-old to a WhoScored.com rating of 7.33.”

Whoscored’s selections are based on statistics, so they will often court controversy by fans who haven’t been impressed with what they’ve seen from said players on the pitch.

And some supporters of both Rangers and Celtic fans did not think Christie should’ve been in the XI:
