Some Newcastle United fans have been reacting on social media after David Moyes distanced West Ham from signing Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham this summer.
The Magpies and Hammers have both been linked with moves for Thomas Tuchel’s out-of-favour centre-forward, with ESPN citing the pair among a number of clubs keen on the 23-year-old.
Abraham has found himself cast into the wilderness at Stamford Bridge following Tuchel’s arrival to replace Frank Lampard, with the German head coach often willing to omit the England international from his matchday plans even when fit.
Chelsea are also planning to refresh their forward options at the end of the season, with Olivier Giroud expected to leave alongside Abraham. But the Telegraph report the Blues will demand around £40m to part with the latter.
The whopping asking price has seemingly brought a halt to West Ham’s interest, with Moyes adamant that the fee is well beyond his side’s price range despite the attacker being among his top summer targets (Sky Sports).
“It would rule us out completely. We will be ruled out,” Moyes said, via quotes by Sky Sports. “So if that’s the figure and that’s what’s being said, we are ruled out. We don’t have that money.”
A handful of Newcastle fans expect their club will follow West Ham in withdrawing their interest in Abraham, who – despite his recent lack of minutes – remains Chelsea’s top-scorer across all competitions this season with 12 goals in 32 appearances.
