Christian Atsu scored his first of the season, with Salomon Rondon smashing in an equaliser to make it 2-2.
Newcastle were unlucky not to come away from the game with a point, but the performance was further evidence in the eyes of many Newcastle fans that Rafa Benitez is the man to take the club forwards.
The Spaniard’s name was chanted several times during the game, with the popular former Liverpool, Chelsea and Real Madrid manager still locked in talks over his future.

Loanee striker Rondon put in a fine display for the hosts and really took the game to PFA Player of the Year Virgil van Dijk and his centre-back partner Dejan Lovren.
