Some Newcastle fans give their take on Vincent Kompany thunderbolt

Manchester City inched closer to the Premier League title on Monday courtesy of an outrageous goal from captain Vincent Kompany.

With the score at 0-0, the Belgian defender advanced with the ball from around 30 yards and unleashed a missile into the top corner, giving Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel no chance.

The strike is already being touted as a potential Goal of the Season, given both its quality and importance.

The match-winning goal was actually Kompany’s first shot on target from outside the penalty area since December 2013, and he will more than likely never score a better goal for the remainder of his playing career.

Speaking about his incredible contribution, Kompany said, as quoted by BBC Sport: “I could hear people saying ‘don’t shoot, don’t shoot! But I’ve not come this far in my career to have young players tell me when to shoot.

“For 15 years, I’ve told people I’ll score one like that.”

Impressed football fans of clubs up and down the country reacted to Kompany’s goal, with Newcastle United supporters taking particular interest.

Earlier in the season, their own defender Fabian Schar scored a sensational goal from a similar distance against Burnley in February.
