Some Manchester United fans are coming round to the idea of £50m Aston Villa swoop

This weekend has seen the apparent interest in John McGinn from Manchester United emerge yet again. The Sun is reporting that Sir Alex Ferguson is the man behind United’s interest in the Aston Villa star.

The Manchester United legend is said to be ‘close friends’ with the Aston Villa star’s grandfather. Jack McGinn, a former Celtic chairman and ex-president of the Scottish Football Association.

The new report came out on a day when McGinn highlighted his quality yet again for Aston Villa. The Premier League newbies defeated Charlton Athletic in a pre-season friendly yesterday, with McGinn catching the eye. The Scotland international scored a sensational solo goal that had fans on Twitter admiring the Aston Villa talisman.

It was certainly a goal that deserves a reported £50 million price-tag and a place at Old Trafford.

Of course, Aston Villa fans are having none of it. Firstly, with Manchester United said to be chasing the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, it would seem an odd move to target McGinn.

Secondly, they just cannot see the club hierarchy signing off on the exit of a top player with the Premier League kick-off approaching fast.

But it seems some Manchester United fans have been won over. Plenty of Red Devils supporters have taken to Twitter to suggest they are happy to pay the money, especially with Sir Alex’s seal of approval.

Aston Villa fans will, however, likely take all the latest reports with a generous helping of salt…
