Some Man City fans react to Pep Guardiola’s unwanted Premier League record
Some Manchester City fans have been reacting on social media after The Analyst noted that Pep Guardiola boasts the worst record for penalties in the Premier League since his arrival.
Guardiola has stood at the Etihad Stadium helm since 2016, in which time the Citizens have won the top-flight title twice and could seal a third on Tuesday if rivals Manchester United cannot beat Leicester City.
The Spaniard has also won 138 and drawn 23 of his 187 Premier League fixtures in charge of the Sky Blues, which could have been 24 draws or 139 wins plus a third title on Saturday had they not lost 2-1 to Chelsea.
Sergio Aguero calamitously missed a tame attempted Panenka in the final stages of first-half stoppage-time that would have seen Man City double their single-goal lead, which the Argentine later issued an apology for on social media.
It was the 14th penalty that a Citizens played has failed to convert since Guardiola’s arrival, marking the most spurned by any Premier League side in the same period with three more than second-placed Manchester United and five more than Leicester City who rank third.
Aguero’s blunder was also the fourth penalty that Man City have failed to capitalise on this season, after misses from Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and Ilkay Gundogan – the most by any single club thus far.
Of the 16 top-flight teams who have taken at least 10 spot-kicks in the period at which Guardiola has been in charge at the Etihad Stadium, his Sky Blues side also boast the worst success rate for penalties having found the back of the net just 65.9% of the time.
Some fans are now expressing concern over Guardiola’s unwanted record ahead of facing Chelsea in the Champions League Final on May 29, when their side will be playing for a first title while Thomas Tuchel’s Blues are fighting for their second.

I’d these is not enough reason for Ederson to take over, I don’t know what else then.

If Pep can improve pretty much everything, why hasn’t he worked on penalties? Missing penalties has cost us in last 3 seasons..

It’s better to win games playing football. Penalties are still goals but they come way too softly nowadays. This isn’t something we should fix or work on

Spurs game (UCL away goals) started with a domination at WHL … Pen miss (Sergio) and then Son goal on the break… city always rotate so tricky to have a “Penandes – Frank Lamps – Salah” always on the pitch to take it
