Garth Crooks has named his Premier League Team of the Season.
The BBC pundit is known for making left-field choices when constructing his Team of the Week, but there weren’t too many complaints about his actual final XI for 2018/19.

In goal he went with Ederson, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Antonio Rudiger and Andy Robertson in front of him.
His three-man midfield consisted of Bernardo Silva, Fernandinho and Eden Hazard and in attack he chose Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero and Sadio Mane.
Crooks provided an explanation for each of his choices, but it was his words on PFA Player of Year van Dijk that caused a bit of a stir.
He said of the former Southampton colossus (via BBC Sport): “What the Dutch international has brought to Liverpool’s defence is almost unquantifiable. I do feel however, that if Liverpool fail to win the Champions League, and that is by no means certain, it may hasten van Dijk’s departure. Players of his class need to be playing for the best team in the world.”

It is certainly a very bold assessment from Crooks, who felt the wrath of many Reds fans on social media.

It is madness to think that van Dijk would leave Liverpool when he’s helped transform them into one of Europe’s best and most feared teams.
The £75 million signing has been at the club less than two years and an exit this summer seems ludicrous, and that’s exactly what most Liverpool fans said:
