Some Liverpool fans have moved to praise Neco Williams, who was much improved against Ajax last night.

The youngster was given the nod to start at right-back in the fifth Champions League group stage match.

It was a big night for the Wales international, who has been having a tough time of late.

Williams blacked out his social media channels recently after receiving abuse from supporters, and he put in a shaky performance against Brighton in the Premier League last weekend.

But Williams hit back with a solid performance against Dutch giants Ajax, showing better composure at Anfield.

According to Sofascore, the star had 60 touches in the game, had a pass accuracy of 80%, made two clearances, three tackles, won four out of his eight ground duels, made one key pass and provided the assist for Curtis Jones’ winner.

It was the ideal response from the 19-year-old, who will be hopeful of retaining his place against Wolves on Sunday – given the number of injury problems, there is probably a good chance for him.

It’s an important time for Williams, with Trent Alexander-Arnold currently sidelined for the Reds.

The England international should be back fit in a couple of weeks, so Williams needs to make an impression while he can.
