Some Liverpool fans shocked by what they've noticed about Joe Gomez in training today
Liverpool fans have welcomed Joe Gomez back to the training fold, with some expressing shock after seeing the scars on his knee.
The Reds defender has not featured for Jurgen Klopp’s side since suffering a long-term injury last November.
Gomez sustained an injury to the tendon in his left knee while on international duty with England.
The 24-year-old required surgery and was out for the remainder of the 2020-21 season.
On Tuesday, Gomez completed his first training session in almost eight months, alongside his Liverpool teammates in Austria.
Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joel Matip were also involved.
Pictures of Gomez in action were doing the rounds on Twitter, much to the delight of Liverpool fans.

And, as one fan suggested, the scars on his knee are a reminder of his battle to get back to this point.
That scar is a reminder of what he has been through to get back on the training pitch. 👏🏻👍👊

When asked by the Liverpool media team how he was feeling, Gomez replied: “I’m good, thank you.
“It’s nice to be back among the boys. It’s been a long time, so I’m relishing it.
“Obviously after such a long layoff, it’s not a case of just being thrown in the deep end.
“We’ll probably have to do some adaptations, the likes of myself and Virgil.
“That’s where it’s nice to work alongside each other – we had different injuries, but we’ve been in it together all the way.
“There’ll be days where we have to do something more suitable for us, but to do team training today after such a long time means a lot.
“I think speaking for us both, we loved every minute of it.”
