Some Liverpool fans react as defender stars against Cardiff

Liverpool responded to Manchester City’s win over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday by beating Cardiff City 2-0.

The Reds are top of the Premier League by two points once again as Gini Wijnaldum and James Milner’s goals saw off a plucky challenge from the relegation-threatened Welsh club.

Jurgen Klopp will now be hoping to a favour from bitter rivals Manchester United, who are next up for City in the league.

The Red Devils travel to the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday and will be hoping to bounce back from an awful 4-0 defeat to Everton.

It was by no means an easy game for Liverpool, with Cardiff well organised and resolute at the back.

It was also important for the Reds to be strong themselves at the back, and one man who really caught the eye once again, was Joel Matip.

The Cameroon international was a rock alongside Virgil van Dijk, and looks to have become a major player for Liverpool in their pursuit of the title.

After the game, some Liverpool fans showered praise of the 27-year-old for his efforts in the fact of a spirited Cardiff side:
