It’s not often that Mohamed Salah scores a brace for Liverpool and still ends up being the second most impressive player on the pitch. That’s how good Curtis Jones was for the Reds against Porto last night.
Jurgen Klopp took his boys to Portugal to take on a Porto side who can be a bit of a nuisance on their day. However, Liverpool were on another level last night and Jones was the star of the show.
The 20-year-old was handed a start in the middle of the park following his stunner against Brentford last weekend. He looked brilliant from the very first minute and ended up picking up a couple of assists, three according to some fans as his saved shot led to Salah’s opener.
Liverpool fans have always known how good Jones is. He is one of their brightest talents, but many Reds supporters feel that the 20-year-old doesn’t get the credit he deserves from everyone else in the country.
The likes of Bukayo Saka, Mason Mount, Phil Foden and Mason Greenwood are the first names off everyone’s mouth when speaking about England’s most talented youngsters. Jones is never on that list and that has irked a few Liverpool supporters.
Some Liverpool fans think Curtis Jones is better than Phil Foden
Right after Jones’ phenomenal display against Porto last night, many Liverpool fans compared him to Foden. The Manchester City star, in many people’s eyes, is the best young English talent out there, but he hasn’t had the chance to show his quality this term.
Foden has started just one game for City in the Premier League so far this season. He scored a goal and picked up a couple of assists against Wycombe in the League Cup, but that’s about all he can shout about.

Jones’ numbers are identical, but he has arguably been far more impressive. Liverpool fans are convinced that he is better than Foden and most other players of his age in the country.
Here’s what a few of them wrote on Twitter last night…
