Liverpool were dealt a shock defeat in the Champions League last night. Two goals from Milan Pavkov gave Red Star a 2-0 win over Jurgen Klopp’s side. The result leaves Liverpool, who won their opening game of the competition against Paris Saint-Germain, now struggling after two away defeats in the competition.
Of course, a lot of the blame was immediately blamed on the fringe players who came in. Adam Lallana and Daniel Sturridge struggled to have an impact on the game.
However, Liverpool clearly still had a team capable of winning the game.
So it was the performance of some of their first-team regulars that was more frustrating.

A player who has not been at his best recently is Trent Alexander-Arnold. The youngster, who has an incredible season in 2017-18, has struggled to meet the high expectations Liverpool fans now have of him.
The 20-year-old England international neglected his defensive duties and, above all the other players, seemed the most shaken by the imposing atmosphere in the Rajko Mitic Stadium.
He was eventually hauled off for Joe Gomez and perhaps Alexander-Arnold does need a little time out of the first-team after his recent dips in form.
