Liverpool legend Steve Nicol has predicted James Milner will be handed a new deal at Anfield.
The midfielder’s current contract expires next month and as things currently stand, he will leave after the Champions League final.

Milner had been linked with a return to Leeds United, but Marcelo Bielsa’s side failed to achieve promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs, seemingly making any move unlikely.
Milner has been a trusted player for Liverpool since joining in 2015.
The utility man always gives 100% and is adored for his commitment to the cause by the Reds faithful.

The situation will probably be reviewed once the Champions League final is out of the way, but Nicol reckons keeping Milner on is a no-brainer.
Speaking on ESPN FC, he said as quoted by The Express: “Absolutely no chance he goes anywhere other than his car to drive to Anfield to sign a new deal.
“It would be absolutely crazy, he’s been a huge part of this year again.

“Regardless of his age, Liverpool will need him next year. Maybe he won’t play as many games, but he’ll be needed for cover all around the field.”
Liverpool fans react
Liverpool fans appear to be fairly split about Milner’s future, with many desperate to see him stick around, while some simply think his age should be cause to move him on:
