Some Liverpool fans are 'so happy' club didn't listen to ex-player who suggested signing Pickford
Liverpool supporters have laughed off former coach Chris Kirkland’s story that he once suggested Jordan Pickford as a potential signing.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, the ex-Reds shot-stopper recalled a story where he suggested the England international as a potential signing for Liverpool in 2016.
Kirkland played with Pickford in the 2015/16 season at Preston North End. And the former England star believes that the now Everton number one was one of the best keepers he has ever played with.
Indeed, the goalkeeper coach said: “I told some of the Liverpool staff that Jordan was the best young keeper I had worked with.
“I told them he was going to be something special. But obviously, nobody listened and he eventually ended up at Everton!”
Indeed, whilst Pickford has had success with both Everton and England, most Liverpool supporters on social media are glad the club never signed the 27-year-old.
Moreover, with Alisson Becker between the sticks, Liverpool have one of the best shot-stoppers in Europe. As well as a keeper who will likely be the club’s number one for many years to come.
Here’s what some Liverpool fans had to say on Twitter about Kirkland’s revelation surrounding Jordan Pickford…
And were all so happy they didnt! Pickford is a liability, his kicking is truly awfull n been Englands weakest point. London FC have done well to carry him this far! Getting to the final is more a reflection on the team. U wouldn't say Mustafi is good n he won a world cup 🤣— John Darker (@Slowjohn23) July 11, 2021
Wait, has the Euros fever somehow caused people to forget that Pickford is a mediocre goalkeeper who doesn't come within a mile of the guy we already have? Cuz…I'm pretty happy with the guy we have.— James Graham P. (@JamesGrahamP) July 11, 2021
Thank god!!! No one listened. Don’t rate him at all. And not listening to the over hype of all the English players now being World Class because they’ve got to the final.— grant (@grantstyles1972) July 11, 2021
He's not better than Allison, lucky England beat Denmark in normal time n didn't get to a penalty shoot out because Schmiecel wud have taken Denmark to the final— Red4Life (@kovenpillay) July 11, 2021
It's a good thing we didn't listen to him.— Eathen.. (@Eathen_1892) July 11, 2021
So glad no one listens…. Else we would have missed out on Ali!!— Redmen Ernie (@ErnestYap9) July 11, 2021
Pickford will likey start tonight for England in the Euro 2020 final against Italy. Moreover, the Everton player will only be the second Englishman to start in a major international final.
